I got a good deal on a Fujitsu Lifebook T731 (like the ToughBook) and picked up a VCM and the harnesses on eBay. I also bought the IDS 2012.5 software and now all I need is an activation key for the IDS. The key for 1 year from Ford on (motorcraftservice.com) is $850. I can get it from this dealer closeout guy for $650 for the year. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a key for a little cheaper than that? I knew how much this stuff cost before I bought it and will just spend the $650 a year if I have to but if their is any other cheaper alternative I want to know about it so I'm not biting myself in the azz later on.

About the only other way to get IDS software is off of a hard copy, like a disc that was sent to a dealership. I'm not sure if it's even legal to own one as I've never seen one on ebay.
If you don't mind me asking what did the VCM cost you, I'd like to get one myself. I bought the VCM with the VCM to laptop cable and VCM to OBDII cable, power supply, and ids software disc for $1000 on eBay. It was apparently some kind of dealer closeout.I think they upgraded to the VCMII for the new 2011+ trucks I guess $650 isn't too bad for the software, but then again its only for 1 year I just though maybe someone would know a better place to get a activation key from.
